George Washington and Sweet Lips

Sweet Lips and One of Our Forefathers
Can we give this forefather a little pat on the back today?

Yes, he was also the father of the American Foxhound and his favorite was Sweet Lips.  I don't know, but I believe besides being his aide and warrant officer of the USA, Mr. Billy Lee also helped hWashington with this task.  A Dalmatian, Madame Moose, was with Commander Washington and Mr. Lee during 8 years of the Revolution to protect their horses.  Sweet Lips stayed at Mount Vernon, pet and hunter.

Washington was a dog lover and was also noted for the names he gave his pets. Throughout his life he had more than 30 dogs.

HORSES NELSON AND CHINKLING AND DOGS MADAME MOOSE AND SWEET LIPS--FAMOUS IN REVOLUTION

                                                               NELSON AND CHINKLING

THE sorrel horse is being rested for the night, along with the black horse, Chinkling.  Mr. Billy Lee has put them in the friend's barn on  the Commander's way to Fort West Point.  The dalmatian, Madame Moose, is trying to alert the horses that  a wolf is near by--that was her job.

These horses were with their masters for the 8 years of the Revolution.  Washington and Mr. Billy Lee led the troops and these  horses were heroes and legendary.  The colonists knew this  and when the Revolution was over they came to Mount Vernon to see Mr. Billy Lee ride Chinkling through the virgin forest near by.  Of course, Washington was the hero and his horse, Nelson, were the real heroes.  But Mr. Billy Lee and Chinkling were in so many paintings of the day with Washington that we know of their importance today.

Washington and Lee led the troops, taunted thee Brits, and, of course, won the war. Mr. Billy Lee was black, a warrant officer, and had an honorable discharge.  Bet you didn't learn this in school

THE foxhound Sweet Lips was left at Mount Vernon, but was sadly missed.  In his lifetime, Washington had 30 dogs, and yes he was honored by starting the breed--the  American Foxhound.  Sweet Lips was one of his favorites and Washington was well-known for naming his pets.
